‘We Are Family’ set to demonstrate the universal power of music and unity

  • Sister Sledge classic returns to help the fight against COVID-19

  • Special edition of ‘We Are Family’ set to raise funds and be an anthem for unity

  • FIFA a strong supporter of World Health Organization COVID-19 campaigns

Be it in sport or day-to-day life, there has never been a more important time to unite as one.

In a show of solidarity and in support of health efforts during the ongoing battle against COVID-19, the anthemic Grammy-nominated Sister Sledge smash hit ‘We Are Family’ is about to once again became an earworm.

Released on Monday, the mission is to make this special edition version an anthem for unity and, at the same time, raise money to help the WHO Foundation address critical global health needs, including in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The campaign is being launched by The World We Want, a global social impact enterprise, and Kim Sledge, part of the legendary multi-Gold and Platinum recording music group, in benefit of the WHO Foundation, with support from the World Health Organization (WHO).

Kim Sledge said: “From the doctors and nurses on the front lines, to the paramedics and police, from the midwives and scientists to the carers for the vulnerable, the We Are Family initiative will salute each and everyone with a feeling of unity, strength and solidarity in response to the unprecedented challenges the world faces as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.”

And you can take part in the fun and perhaps even star in a music video. The global community will be invited to share videos singing along to the song, with a final montage to be released in December.

FIFA have been strong supporters of WHO campaigns throughout 2020. For more information on this and other ways football's world governing body have contributed during the pandemic, visit our COVID-19 Resource Centre.
