Fiji has already acted on the findings of the global talent report by introducing a number of measures to improve talent development. The TDS will offer further benefits once it gets under way from 2023. Among the measures:
- The Fiji Premier League has expanded from eight to ten teams
- Each Premier League team must field at least one U-19 player in the starting line-up with another named as a substitute
- To work in the Fiji Premier League, coaches must hold at least an OFC C licence. A similar rule is to be introduced at youth level
- The youth league system is being reorganised and leagues are being introduced in the U13 and U15 categories
- Vanua Leva, Fiji’s second-biggest island, is receiving its first football academy
